Posted January 23, 2018 06:24:51 A new material used in the construction of energy-efficient homes could offer a solution for the energy crisis and make recycling more sustainable.
The polyethylenes used in modern homes and buildings are made from a mix of carbon and water.
While many of these materials are recyclable, only a few have been shown to be environmentally benign.
But polyethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (PEA), a polymer made from acetic acid and methyl ethyl ketone, can be converted to acetic acids and is considered one of the cleaner forms of wood.
It was originally created in the 1930s as a lightweight, non-stick material.
But it has since found a place in modern buildings.
It is also used in paints, lubricants and insulation.
The technology behind the material has been around for decades and has the potential to be more sustainable than conventional wood-based materials such as plywood, but the research behind it has not yet been fully explored.
The Oxford University researchers behind the research, led by Dr Ian Wills, a researcher in the department of materials science and engineering, have now created a new polymer, known as acetic acetic anhydride, that is better at removing water and is easier to process.
It can be made from one or more layers of a compound called acetic acetate and it is made from two different carbon atoms bonded together in a complex pattern known as a binder.
The researchers are using a combination of techniques to make it.
They first used graphene nanotubes to form a polymer with two carbon atoms, then they added two more carbon atoms to form another polymer.
In the final step, they added a third carbon atom, which made the polymers stronger and stronger, and eventually produced a new binder and the final polymer.
Dr Wills said the new polymer could be used in a range of industries including construction, energy, food and pharmaceuticals.
“We have made it into a material that is much cleaner, easier to work with, and is less likely to get into the environment,” he said.
“It’s very much like using plastics in the building industry to make materials for building construction.”
Our research showed that it was the most efficient material we’ve ever created, and we’ve used this material to create some really beautiful things, such as a new, water-resistant paint that’s also environmentally friendly.
“Dr Wamps said the material was the first of its kind to be used to make a high-density, low-impact wood material.”
What’s really remarkable about this is that the process of making this material is much easier and more economically efficient than making wood from wood chips,” he explained.”
I’m pretty confident that in the near future we will be able to make this material in a much larger scale and be able produce it from much smaller amounts of wood chips than we have today.
“Dr Michael Kugelman, an expert in environmental economics at the Australian National University, said the research demonstrated the power of a flexible material to make renewable energy.”
The polymers that are being produced are going to be able replace a lot of our fossil fuels in a number of applications, especially for use in power generation, which will have a significant impact on the climate,” he added.”
They are very promising materials for a number the applications that we’re seeing with solar panels and wind turbines.
“The researchers were funded by the National Renewable Energy Agency (NREA) through the Australian Research Council (ARC) program, which supports the design, development and commercialisation of new technologies.
The project is published in Nature Materials.
